Identifying Commonly Cultivated Palms

Identifying Commonly Cultivated Palms supports users in the identification of 48 palm genera that are commonly cultivated in the United States and Caribbean. Given the difficulty of separating palm species and the number of hybrids among them, an identification to species may not always be possible. Fact sheets for 82 palm species, with numerous images and detailed descriptions including diagnostic information, are provided to support species identification as much as possible. The interactive key may be used to identify a palm in the landscape or a leaf from the palm. Reproductive characters are included in the key and described in the fact sheets, but they are not essential for using the key. A glossary to botanical terminology in the key and fact sheets has also been provided.
