Eastern Mediterranean.

Brief characterization

Square stems bearing spike-like inflorescences of 6-10 flowers in false whorls at leaf axils; expanded, green, trumpet-shaped calyx tube ca. 2.5 cm across; white, bilabiate corolla enclosed in calyx, of 1 hooded upper lip and 3 lower lobes, the center one larger and usually notched. In cut stems leaves may be removed and unopened corollas visible only as white central disks.
