Brief characterization

Elliptic, lanceolate or ovate, thin, veiny, often toothed leaves; leafy stems terminating in panicle-like cymes; flowers fragrant, subsessile; narrow, ribbed calyx with acute or acuminate lobes, scarious below sinuses; corolla salverform, with 5 flat, often notched lobes.

Cultivar and/or species variation

Flowers 1.5-3 cm across, pink, purple, lavender, salmon, red, and white, often with contrasting or lighter or darker eye (corolla tube at throat) color.
