Brief characterization

Leaves alternate, simple, entire, oblanceolate to spoon-shaped, +/- clasping; flowers (florets) in solitary, radiate heads, 4-10 cm across; head subtended by a shallow, saucer-shaped involucre of non-imbricate, subequal phyllaries in 1-2 rows; carpellate ray florets; disc florets short-lobed, functionally male, with stamens and non functional style (style branches fused); pappus absent.

Cultivar and/or species variation

Single heads have disc florets and several series of ray florets; in doubles nearly all the florets are ray florets; ray florets yellow to orange, disc florets yellow, orange, dark red or brown.
