Primarily North America.

Brief characterization

Alternate, entire or toothed, often linear-lanceolate leaves; panicles bearing many, small (ca. 4 mm across), few-flowered, radiate heads mostly in 1-sided upward-facing racemes on recurved branches; head subtended by +/- cylindric involucre of subequal or imbricate phyllaries in several rows; ray flowers (florets) yellow, female; disc florets yellow; pappus 1-2 rows of capillary bristles.

Cultivar and/or species variation

Overall shape of panicle varies: corymb-like, plume-like, or conical, compact to open, more or less densely flowered; heads in various shades of yellow or yellow-orange.
