Western North America.

Brief characterization

Short, leafless scapes, each bearing an umbel of ca. 15-25 flowers; umbel subtended by an involucre of green ensiform bracts; funnel-shaped flowers jointed to erect, 5-8 cm long pedicels; 6 usually connate tepals in 2 whorls of 3 with green midrib on exterior, tepal lobes about equal in length to tube.

Cultivar and/or species variation

Stems short (30 to 66 cm tall); flowers blue, purple, or white, 0.8-5 cm long, usually single, but occasionally double.
